A sweet, summer cocktail made with Hendrick's cucumber gin, homemade strawberry basil simple syrup and topped with lemon Italian soda. Enjoy!
TIP: to make strawberry basil simple syrup, combine one cup of white sugar with one cup of water and cook over medium heat until all sugar has dissolved. Add a few strawberries and basil leaves and allow to steep for 20 minutes. Strain and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • oz Hendrick's Cucumber Gin
  • 2 oz strawberry basil simple syrup (see recipe)
  • 2 oz lemon flavored Italian soda

Directions

  • Shake gin and strawberry basil simple syrup in a shaker and dump entire contents into a glass
  • Top with lemon flavored Italian soda and garnish with fresh flowers

I had a similar cocktail at the Pool Club in Nashville this year and knew I would have to mix together something like it to enjoy at home! Hendrick’s cucumber gin makes Babe Alert! perfect for summer! Simply add strawberry basil simple syrup and lemon Italian soda (San Pellegrino is my favorite). That’s it – a quick stir and you’re ready to go! Super easy! Its perfect pair is the beach or pool – the patio wouldn’t be a bad match either!

Babe Alert is here to satisfy a sweet tooth. Most cocktail breaks for me involve something fresh or spicy, but every now and then all I want is something sweet. The flavor instantly reminded me of drinking strawberry Kool-Aid as a young girl. Kool-Aid was strictly a summer treat because almost anything red had to be served outside to protect the carpet and counters from spills. What a lucky coincidence that most things red and sweet taste better under the sun anyway. Cheers!

Garnish & Variations

Like any pink cocktail, edible flowers make the perfect garnish. In the spring, I lean towards cherry blossoms since they grown in our yard. If I don’t have something form my garden to use, I order from Gourmet Sweet Botanicals. They have a great selection, fast shipping and affordable prices. It can be tempting to pick up flowers from the grocery store, but make sure they’re sold as edible. A lot of flowers that are used for decoration are treated with pesticides and are not safe to eat. Fresh basil or mint work great too!

If you’re not in the mood to pick up Italian soda, feel free to substitute. Use club soda with a squeeze of lemon and splash of simple syrup. If you’d rather enjoy a variation that’s not as sweet, don’t worry about the simple syrup. Tailor the cocktail to your taste buds and enjoy!
